"Be brave enough to live the life of your dreams according to your vision and purpose instead of the expectations and opinions of others." -Roy T. Bennett
The Question I am asking.
These last two years have been quite a journey. I have learned so much about myself. I've had a lot of time to be still and reflect on this new chapter- trying new things and learning to experiment with my creativity, trusting and believing in myself, and living in the present moment. Through this journey, I have asked myself what is my purpose in this life- what am I here to do? The search for these questions led me to Human Design. In the process, I am uncovering my Unique Blueprint, helping me to lean more into my own special gifts, leading with intentions, and learning to trust myself while knowing that the universe has my back every step of the way. During this process, I am learning that love and guidance are always available to us, helping us co-create the lives we dream of. Human design is helping me to discover my unique blueprint and uncover my authentic self—the light that embodies me. Now, I’m ready to let go and live. I’ve given myself permission to experiment and to follow what lights me up. It really is that simple: trusting that all will be well and knowing that it’s okay to let go. I’m starting this blog series to share my journey and hope that if you are in search of what you are meant to do- what is your core purpose- or maybe you feel stuck, I am here to remind you that you are not lost, broken, or a failure. Life is a journey, and every step—every decision—teaches us lessons or blesses us in ways we may not see immediately. I hope something inside these pages will resonate with you and help you start your journey of love and self-discovery.
Who am I, and what is my purpose?
Do you ask yourself- Who am I and what is my purpose? Do you feel lost and unsure of which direction you should go? Are you influenced by different strategies, tried them, and still find yourself in the same spot? Are you wondering what your strengths are and how to discover what you are meant to do? These were the questions I started to ask myself, but before we discuss this, let’s go back a couple of years to 2023. After I was laid off from my corporate job, I have to be honest: I was unsettled by how it was done. I was let go on my day off. Yep. Just like in the movie Friday, when Craig was let go on his day off. That is what happened. I was on PTO, minding my own business when the situation took a turn for the worse. I had no idea that layoffs were happening or that my role was impacted. How did I find out, you ask? Someone texted me and said, “You might want to check your work email. " It was odd, but I went and grabbed my work laptop, and there it was: the letter that stated my role was eliminated. It is hard to express in words the feeling I had at that moment. There was a part of me that felt relieved because I was ready for a change, and the other part of me was like, ‘What the fuck. '
When problem-solving is not the answer
So now what? Well, I did the only thing I knew how to do at the time: I jumped right into problem-solving. I focused on how to fully commit to the brand I created. I decided to take my hobby and turn it into a company. Yes, if you know anything about Human Design, I was working outside my Strategy of To Respond. I was moving a million miles per hour, trying to figure out how to turn this hobby into a profitable business- making decisions that were not aligned with me. I was deep in my scarcity mindset, which led me to try everything someone suggested. I was participating in numerous pop-up events, attempting to become a social media expert, renting a booth in a brick-and-mortar store, reading books, listening to podcasts- and I was pursuing any idea that came to mind. As I mentioned, I was moving a million miles and going nowhere.
In the summer of 2024, I became frustrated. If you understand Human Design, this is a key indicator for my design type ( I am a Generator) that I am not moving in the right direction. I was not living in my signature; instead, I was living in my not-self, meaning I did not have the satisfaction of being lit up by life. The feeling that gave me a YES in my body let me know that I was in full alignment. Instead, I was just frustrated; things were not working the way I thought they should. I was trying to do too many things at once; nothing was happening even though I was doing a lot. I was over it; I was making decisions from my external self instead of going inward- basically throwing things at the wall and hoping they would work out. I was moving in fear, not faith, and my ego was fully present. With this feeling, something deep inside me was pulling me in a different direction. At the time, I did not know what it was, but I’ve been here before, and this time I decided to listen to my inner self and what I like to call God’s whispers. The whispers that were telling me at the time that I needed to slow down and reconnect with myself. I needed to live in the present and stop trying to control every aspect of my life; I needed to go inward because the answers are always there. I no longer needed, or never have needed, external validation. It was time for me to discover myself and show up as the person I was created to be and release everything else. Can you relate?
What happens you get out of the way of YOU
What should you do when you're tired of your shit? Throughout my life, I have been driven to excel, chasing accomplishments that fed my ego and seeking approval that I believed defined success. My primary desire was to fit in, to prove my worth, even if it meant losing sight of my true self. For years, I ignored my gifts- I lived this way—powering through, suppressing my feelings, and ignoring the quiet whispers urging me to change. You know, that voice telling you to do something different, to make a change. The feeling that your body is signaling something isn't right, yet you keep pushing forward in the only way you know how, allowing your ego to take the driver's seat. I was not living in my purpose as it had been designed for me. This time, I listened. I had the tools I needed to truly hear. I’ve been practicing yoga, going to therapy, meditating, learning about my human design, and reading spiritual books. I possessed the tools to help me notice the soft whispers before they became loud. Those soft whispers led me to pause. And that is what I did. I slowed down and decided to reconnect with myself. Within my human design, I am here to do only the things that light me up and bring me joy. I am not to chase things; instead, I let them flow to me. I am magnetic, and things naturally come to me, and once they do, I must decide if it is a YES or a NO. So I made the decision to move into a different lane, one where I surrendered, sat still, and waited for things to come to me, and then made a decision if it is a YES or NO. If it is a YES, I give it my energy; if it is a NO, I release it and understand that something better is on its way to me. I was tired of chasing, hoping for the best, trying every marketing and sales strategy you name it, and the one I never thought to lean on is the one that has been there all along: my own strategy, the one created for me to unlock my strengths and discover my purpose.
When the signs point to YES
So, I made a list of things that lit me up and waited to respond, and what kept showing up for me was that I should travel. Something was pulling me to travel. I mean, the signs were everywhere, and I felt it. It felt right, even though I did not know how I would pay for it. I decided it was a full YES for me, and I would just go. The one thing I knew for sure is that I was being guided to travel, and I had a choice to make. I can not go and let the wipers get louder, maybe hit rock bottom before I pay attention. Or, I can just go where I am being guided without questioning it- just do it and see what unfolds. And since I was being called to travel, I would let everything go. To surrender to what is out of my control and focus on the present moment- what was being presented to me even if I did not understand it. I mean, let’s be real- how am I going to pay for this? I need to make money instead of spending it on travel- these were my thoughts, and my ego was supporting this all the way. But the one thing I do know is that you should drop back into your body. I believe this is where God exists in us and is always guiding us along the way; we just need to connect to it- the source. And I did just that. So, for once, I listened. I trusted that inner voice and took steps toward where it was guiding me. It turned out to be the best decision I ever made.
Traveling opened my mind and heart to new perspectives, especially during a life-changing trip to Bali. I realized that each of us carries a unique imprint—a light within us that, when we allow it to shine, guides us to a beautiful, fulfilling life. We just need the courage to embrace our true selves and connect to the source—our higher selves, the universe, or, as I call it, GOD. This love and guidance are always available to us, helping us co-create the lives we dream of. Through experimenting with my human design, stillness, and present moments, I am discovering my authentic self—the light that embodies me. Now, I’m ready to let go and live. I’ve given myself permission to experiment and follow what lights me up. It truly is that simple: trusting that all will be well and recognizing that it’s okay to let go. No, I don’t have it all figured out. No, I am not currently running a 6, 7, or 8-figure business, but I am allowing myself to discover who I am - accepting what is and being present in every moment. I am leaning into my special joys and unique gifts that will help me discover a new chapter.
Discover your Story
Now, this is my story. You have to write yours. One of the biggest lessons I have learned through all of this, and what I am still learning, is that everything you need, you already have. It is inside of you. We all have it. You just need to unlock it to see its beauty. And your gifts are your gifts. So, understand your individuality and learn to work with it instead of trying to live out someone's life based on their footprint. Let go lean into your blueprint and see what unfolds. I hope this will inspire you to sit still and learn to listen to your own whispers- the guidance available to you and for you.
Run your Own Experiment
Now, it is time to take action if you choose to. Grab a journal and follow these steps:
- Write down 5-8 things that light you up and bring you joy.
- Once you have your list, visualize how each thing makes you feel. For example, if you want to travel to Paris, think about how the trip will make you feel; visualize yourself at a café or walking around looking at the sights. Really take in how your body feels when you imagine these things. Set your intentions.
- Next, write down the one action you can take to make this happen. This can be a small action, but consider what you can do now, in the present moment, to take steps toward your goals.
- Now, be open to what comes and have fun. You will be surprised by what starts to unfold for you.
